Therapy for Sex & Sexuality in Washington DC

Sex and sexuality can be complex to navigate, especially when you don’t fit “the norm.”

Yet the norm keeps changing, and it can often limit your ability to be your full and authentic self.

And even when you do conform to the standard, you may face difficulties connecting, loving, and enjoying your sexual being.

Whether you are feeling anxious about sex, experiencing sexual issues, or seeking guidance to explore your sexuality, therapy can lead the way.

Welcome Your Identity + Connect With Your Sexuality.

I’m Dr. Wayne Bullock, a licensed psychologist with a Master of Education in Human Sexuality. I offer sex and sexuality therapy to adults in downtown Washington, DC, and adjacent locations.

Speaking about sex can be intimidating and awkward at times, particularly when doing so with a stranger. But my expertise and specialization allow me to foster confidential, healthy, and unbiased conversations—no matter what you are going through.

Sex therapy can support you to overcome sexual challenges and have a fulfilling sex life.

It’s time to reconnect with your body, identity, and desires.

What Is Sex and Sexuality Therapy?

Sex and sexuality therapy is a specialized mental health treatment that addresses problems around your sexual function, sexual orientation, gender identity, intimacy, and pleasure.

Sex and sexuality counseling does not involve engaging in sexual activity with your counselor. As your sex therapist, I combine my expert knowledge, training, and experience to help you manage the underlying issues related to your sexuality and identity.

When to See a Sex Therapist

Common Sex and Sexuality Challenges

  • Anxiety, stress, or shame about sex

  • Body image and self-esteem problems

  • Challenges related to gender identity, sexual orientation, or transition process

  • Desire or intimacy difficulties

  • Disparities or misaligned expectations with your partner

  • Exploring kinks and fetishes

  • Low libido or sex drive

  • Navigating alternative relationships (e.g., ethical non-monogamy)

  • Painful sex or dissatisfaction during intercourse

  • Performance or arousal concerns (e.g., erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, inability to orgasm)

  • Sexual abuse or trauma

  • Uncontrollable and compulsive sexual behavior

Are you or your partner dealing with any of these issues? Then sex and sexuality therapy might be a fantastic alternative for you.

However, you don’t need to experience sexual problems to take advantage of this treatment. If you are curious about your sexuality or want to examine your identity within a safe and informed space, I’m happy to help.

How Can Sex and Sexuality Therapy Help?

People seek sex and sexuality therapy for different reasons—to learn about themselves, rekindle their sex lives, heal from sexual trauma, etc. This process is entirely customized to your specific situation and objectives.

Yet, overall, sex and sexuality therapy can help you:

Discover

You might have questions or doubts or simply want guidance to find your unique self. We will traverse and recognize your authentic light within the spectrum of sex (physiological characteristics at birth), gender identity (individual sense of self), and sexuality (sexual orientation or attraction).

The goal is to offer an open and judgment-free environment to share your experiences, explore yourself, and pinpoint your needs and goals.

Address

You may come to therapy with specific sex, identity, or sexuality issues you want to look into (e.g., sexual anxiety, performance concerns). Or you may believe something is “off” without knowing exactly what it is or why it’s happening.

As we assess your sexual being, we will identify any conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings, beliefs, actions, and traumatic experiences affecting your sexual health.

We will get to the root of your challenges and dysfunctions and find ways to manage them. I will support you in shifting disruptive habits, finding alternative routes, and communicating your needs.

Enjoy

As you face your reality and address your struggles, you can begin to unlock pleasure and joy!

Therapy can help you bolster your connection to yourself and your partner(s) to regain confidence, physical and emotional intimacy, and satisfaction. You will seize your identity and sexuality to support your whole being and relish your sexual journey, focusing on what works for you.
